Mountain Boots
B-rated alpine boots designed for regular use with crampons:
B1 - Stiff trekking/hillwalking boots designed for occasional use with flexible C1-type (strap toe/strap heel) walkers crampons. Ideal for regular scrambling and non-technical crampon use (icy hill paths and glacier crossings).
B2 - Lightweight, walking/scrambling/climbing boots designed for use with C2-type (strap toe/clip heel) mountaineering crampons. A popular choice for winter hillwalking, low-grade gullies and regular scrambling in the UK, or summer alpine routes involving rock and steep snow slopes.
B3 - Rigid, insulated mountaineering boots designed for use with C3-type (wire toe/clip heel) climbing crampons. A better choice for trekking peaks, alpine winter, and ice climbing, but generally less comfortable for hiking.
